Corby's Corner
As Summer comes to an end, we all are looking forward to a little more normalcy in our lives. Many of us are going back into the office with more frequency, the West Michigan Chapter will go back to in-person monthly meetings, and IFMA is hosting an in-person World Workplace in October, first one in 2 years. The world has changed and we all have to adapt, and those business and facility adaptations primarily fall upon us, as facility managers. Work from home, hybrid work environments, temperature checks, new cleaning processes, masks and social distancing may just be the start as we learn more about combatting viruses that are continually mutating, and new ones could also show up. As an association and chapter, our job will be to help all FM’s become educated and aware of how we can create a better, cleaner and safer work environment. Stay tuned.
Enough about our changing world…let’s talk about something more exciting. Yes, World Workplace will be this October in Orlando. I am planning to go, and I hope other chapter members are too. As part of the event the IFMA Foundation annually awards several scholarships to students in facilities management and related fields of study. This Summer I participated on the Foundation’s review team and scored student applications, and also represented the West Michigan Chapter on the selection meeting in mid-August. Drum roll please…I am pleased to announce our Chapter has selected Jada Cannon, an Architecture student from the University of Colorado as the recipient of the 15th Annual Jim Hickey Memorial Scholarship. Jada scored over 95 points (out of 100) and received the 3rd highest points total for undergrad students. Long term, she is planning to attend grad school and get a Masters of Architecture. Short term, she is planning to attend WWP in Orlando to receive her scholarship. For those attending WWP, we will let you all know the scholarship awards details time/location, including a potential student dinner with the chapter so we can meet and get to know Jada. Congratulations Jada!
