The Kathy Pruden Scholarship

The Kathy Pruden Memorial Scholarship was created in 1995 to provide scholarship support to a deserving Facility Management student in the FM program at Ferris State University. The scholarship was named in the memory of Kathy Pruden who was president of the West Michigan Chapter of IFMA and lost a brave battle with brain cancer. Throughout her career at Herman Miller and her tenure in IFMA, Kathy brought a dedication and commitment to whatever she set her mind to. Her sense of organization and attention to detail made her a chapter leader to emulate.

The original scholarship amount was $1000 and that has since been raised to $3000. Each winter term applicants file for the scholarship via a process that is monitored by the Immediate Past President. The West Michigan Chapter Board blindly reviews each application, assigns points for a variety of categories and the point winner is awarded the scholarship at the West Michigan Chapter spring banquet.

The Jim Hickey Memorial Scholarship

The Jim Hickey Memorial Scholarship was created in 2006 in the memory of Jim Hickey who was a beloved IFMA national figure and spokesperson. Many referred to Jim as the senior statesman for IFMA. Jim was elected as one of the first IFMA Fellows and presented a variety of seminars for IFMA all over the country. Following Jim's death in 2005, the West Michigan Chapter decided to endow a scholarship at the national level through the IFMA Foundation. The annual $2500 scholarship is awarded at the annual World Workplace awards ceremony to a student who makes application to the IFMA Foundation.

Jim was a founding member of the West Michigan Chapter in 1987 and was instrumental in representing West Michigan at the national level and was also very actively supported by Steelcase where he was a marketing manager. He was also the project manager for the new Steelcase Headquarters building in Grand Rapids.

Proceeds from the annual West Michigan Chapter golf outing go into the scholarship fund. Any extra funding for the Foundation scholarship is charged to the annual chapter budget.
